11 November 2024
The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) has announced the appointment of Natassia Wheeler as the peak body’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective 16 December 2024.
Ms Wheeler brings 20 years’ experience in the industry, a wealth of expertise and a track record of strong leadership in tourism and events, particularly within Queensland. Most recently, she served as CEO of Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism, where Ms Wheeler led strategic initiatives to drive regional growth, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and position Moreton Bay as Australia’s newest destination. Her experience in media engagement and stakeholder collaboration will be invaluable as she leads QTIC in advancing Queensland’s tourism industry.
Previously, Ms Wheeler also served as CEO of Tourism Whitsundays, where she drove substantial growth in visitor expenditure and secured high returns on marketing investments. Her experience extends to advocacy, governance, and long-term partnership building, demonstrating her commitment to uniting and strengthening the tourism industry as a whole and making her a highly respected figure statewide.
This appointment comes at a pivotal time for QTIC as the state’s peak body looks forward to an exciting new chapter of growth and development with an eye on the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
QTIC Chair, Elsa D’Alessio, expressed confidence in Ms. Wheeler’s leadership and vision, noting her ability to strategically position Queensland’s tourism industry on the world stage.
“Natassia’s vision for QTIC includes elevating our influence and impact across the industry, working closely with state, local and federal governments, key stakeholders and partners to champion the growth and resilience of tourism across Queensland.”
Ms D’Alessio also extended gratitude to outgoing CEO Brett Fraser for his outstanding contributions to QTIC.
“Brett’s business acumen and passion for Queensland’s tourism industry have greatly strengthened QTIC’s capacity to deliver meaningful support, advocacy, and strategic growth. His leadership has left a lasting mark, setting QTIC on a robust path for continued success,” Ms D’Alessio said.
In the interim, QTIC General Manager, Melanie Anderson, will serve as Acting CEO from 16 November until Ms Wheeler commences her role on 16 December.
