A word from the QTIC Chair
Dear Members,
As we approach the upcoming state election, I want to take the time to share the advocacy work QTIC has undertaken on your behalf.
A strong tourism industry is vital for Queensland’s prosperity, driving vibrant communities, creating jobs, and showcasing our cultural heritage and natural assets. As the peak industry body representing over 64,000 tourism businesses, QTIC urges the next Queensland Government to make proactive investments that empower our sector by addressing six key priorities essential for fostering a successful future.
First, attracting and retaining a skilled workforce is crucial to overcoming current labour shortages. The next government must collaborate with industry to build a workforce capable of meeting visitor demand. Secondly, elevating tourism to a central government portfolio will enhance coordination, reduce red tape, and support regional development.
Improving transportation and connectivity is also vital as Queensland continues to grow. Investment in regional transport and digital infrastructure will ensure that all areas benefit from this growth. Additionally, a robust infrastructure pipeline is essential for driving tourism expansion, with better government support needed for ecotourism and new projects.
Finally, building a sustainable and climate-resilient tourism industry requires proactive government investment in innovation. Addressing rising insurance costs and providing comprehensive support measures will help our businesses remain competitive.
I would also like to take this opportunity to share that QTIC’s Chief Executive Officer, Brett Fraser, will resign effective 15 November 2024. For the past two and a half years, Brett has provided exceptional leadership, guiding QTIC through significant post-pandemic challenges. His strategic focus has been pivotal in advancing our industry and rebuilding confidence in Queensland tourism.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Brett for his unwavering commitment and impactful advocacy for our members, strengthening QTIC’s voice within government and positively influencing industry. Brett will oversee key initiatives until his departure, including Tourism Week and the Queensland Tourism Awards Gala Ceremony. We are actively recruiting his successor, with an announcement expected by mid-November 2024.
As QTIC continues to advocate for our industry, we remain focused on delivering exceptional outcomes and ensuring Queensland is a premier destination for world-class experiences.
